Schubert performs a version of his new work, "Symphony in B Minor", for the princess, but a misunderstanding results in Schubert storming out of the concert in a rage. Complications ensue.

Unfinished Song stars Ali-Reza Anoushfar as Farhad, a young musicologist who returns to his birthplace, Iran's Khorasan province, to record and preserve the region's traditional folk songs. When he gets there, he discovers that of the region's once-rich musical tradition, only a few songs are still performed, mainly because women are banned from singing. He also finds out about a woman named Heyran (Ghogha Bayat) who has been imprisoned for that very reason and he becomes determined to find her and record her voice. His meetings with her in jail open up another mystery that connects his family to hers and reveals how her steadfast love of music has doomed her to a life of persecution.
Unfinished Stories employs a structure familiar to Western indie cinema by following a set of seemingly random but interlocking episodes. Debut director Pourya Azarbayjani presents the tales of several women who spend much of the film alone on the streets of Tehran after dark – a particularly fraught place for unescorted women in a Muslim nation. The film's three primary stories each represents a different point in the cycles of courtship and childbirth. One young woman hopes to elope with her unseen fiance, but faces insurmountable problems when he doesn't show up. An older, married woman seeks to buy a pregnancy test, the results of which could dictate her marriage's fate. A new mother at a hospital resorts to drastic measures when a financial problem arises. Archival images and a contraflow of texts trace the migration of the artist’s great-grandfather from England to the Canadian prairies. Using the shadow play of light and darkness as a metaphor for human memory, unfinished passages reframes this forced immigration/orphan experience through the developing lens of the cinema.
